Op 22 januari vindt er een kleine ceremonie plaats ter ere van oud-docente mw. drs Miao-ling Tjoa die op 29 november 2015 overleed.
Er is een mooi portret van haar gemaakt door de schilderes Kay Yoshiya dat tijdens deze gelegenheid onthuld zal worden.
De herdenkingsbijeenkomst zal plaatsvinden op 22 januari tussen 17:00 en 18:30 in het Arsenaal te Leiden. Ambassadeur Hiroshi Inomata zal hierbij aanwezig zijn.

Emperor Akihito’s plans to abdicate have resulted in a lot of discussion around the world. It has been 200 years since a Japanese emperor last chose abdication. What kind of social, political, and legal consequences might this have? This also brings up the discussion of the past, present, and future role of the imperial family in general.

Japan Open Café – September edition (27 September)
The September edition of Japan Open Café will center around the topic of the Japanese Imperial Family. Emperor Akihito’s plans to abdicate have resulted in a lot of discussion around the world. What kind of social, political, and economic consequences might this have?

In samenwerking met de Universiteit Leiden Japanstudies en met ondersteuning van de Stichting Isaac Alfred Ailion Foundation (IAAF) organiseert de Leidse AlumniKai “Van hier tot Tokyo” de tweede “Japanstudies Alumni Dinerlezing”.
Tijdens deze dinerlezing kunt u genieten van een viergangen verrassingsmenu van de chef inclusief wijnen en/of frisdrank, met aansluitend koffie.
Tussen de gangen zullen een aantal gasten spreken over onder andere de opleiding Japanstudies en een actueel onderwerp.

Wegens een beperking op het aantal deelnemers vragen wij u zich aan te melden voor donderdag 13 april 2017. Aanmelden kan via dit online formulier.
In het kader van de vriendschapsband Leiden – Nagasaki zal op 19 april aanstaande voor de tweede maal een delegatie uit Nagasaki een bezoek brengen aan Nederland. De delegatie zal bestaan uit de Honoraire Consul der Nederlanden de heer Shimazaki, de Nagasaki Dutch Friendship Association, bedrijfsleven, pers, Nagasaki Universiteit en Nagasaki prefectuur.
De Leidse Vrienden van Nagasaki organiseert in samenwerking met Universiteit Leiden, Japan Studies, Studievereniging LVSJK Tanuki, alumnivereniging Leidse Alumni Kai “van hier tot Tokyo” en dansgroep Raiden Yosakoi de Meet & Greet.
Tijdens de Meet & Greet zullen er versnaperingen zijn en enkele toespraken. Tevens is er de mogelijkheid om uw bedrijf of organisatie te presenteren. Voor details neemt u gaarne contact op met onze secretaris onder .
Vooral is er de gelegenheid om in contact te komen met onze vrienden uit Nagasaki. Er zullen alumni en studenten van Japan Studies aanwezig zijn om eventuele culturele en linguïstische barrières te overwinnen.
De Leidse Japanse dansgroep “Raiden Yosakoi” zal een optreden verzorgen.
De Nagasaki Dutch Friendship Association zal de gehele dag in Leiden zijn. In samenwerking met Japanmuseum SieboldHuis, Hortus Botanicus Leiden, Museum Volkenkunde, Gemeente Leiden zal er een gevarieerd programma aan hen worden aangeboden. De Leidse Rederij biedt hen vervoer aan tussen de Hortus Botanicus, Volkenkunde en Het Arsenaal.

We are back with our first Japan Open Café of 2017! This edition will take place in The Hague, and will feature two speakers to discuss a very timely topic:
The inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th president of the USA promises a changing role of the US on the world stage. This raises many issues. How will a Trump presidency affect the US-Japan relationship? Also, will there be an impact on Japan’s position towards Europe?
On March 29th, the next Japan Open Café provides an opportunity to discuss these and other related questions. Two speakers will provide their perspectives on this relationship, and the possible effects on diplomacy, politics, and business.
About the speakers
Noriyuki Oka is a media professional with a broad international background. He is, among other things, a prolific writer of articles concerning marketing, technology, and business. He will tackle the question: “How do the Japanese perceive Donald Trump”.
Bryce Wakefield is university lecturer at Japan Studies of Leiden University. His fields of interest are Foreign and defence policies of Japan, Domestic Japanese political discourse, Political Marketing in Japan, International Relations and Comparative Politics. Bryce has a PhD of Auckland University in Political Studies and started as a lecturer in Leiden in 2013.
